breaking news: Hostage Situation in St. Louis

advertisement

My girlfriend just called from St. Louis. She says Chestnut St. is shut down by police. According to a police officer she talked to, the subject of a high-speed chase abandoned his vehicle and took refuge in a hotel. News crews are arriving at the moment, no reports on Google News as of this time.

More as she reports.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Post tragedy, like VT, intiates copy-cats and/or related events.

Could be copycat...according to one report, the guy who got into the gun battle with the police had talked about suicide earlier.

One Man is Dead, Police Officer Critically Injured in Downtown Incident
Created: 4/20/2007 11:32:50 PM
Last updated: 4/20/2007 11:35:03 PM

The incident started as a traffic accident at Memorial and Pine downtown. St. Louis police say a car with a driver and passenger intentionally rammed a city police cruiser. That's when the passenger of the suspect car got out and started firing at police.

Police fired back and killed the suspect. The driver of the car is still at large. He is thought to be armed.

Parts of downtown are still under lockdown.

When she called, I said "Oh, I saw that on Newsvine, but I didn't look...I didn't realize it was in St Louis." Then I looked, and saw it was in Houston. I guess everyone wants to get in on the action.
